The Bonbonnière: A Royal Surprise. In 18th-century royal courts, bonbons were offered in ornate boxes called bonbonnières to dazzle guests. Each bonbon is an "edible jewel" designed for a slow, lingering melt. They represent the ceremony of delight—the thrill of a glossy shell hiding a luscious, unexpected center.
